Battle for Jerusalem Tour: War of independence & 6-day WaR

Touring Ammunition Hill in Jerusalem, a key battle site of Israel's 1967 Six-Day War

Pick up at hotel

Some of the sites we can visit include:

Ammunition Hill

  • This was one of the most important battle sites in the 1967 six day war.
  •  Capturing this hill allowed the Jewish people to liberate Jerusalem.
  • See a unique sound and light show.
  • Experience what it was like to be a soldier.
  • The children and adults will love crawling through the real army trenches of the Jordanian army and taking pictures with a real tank from the war.

Sites along the Jerusalem "Seam Line" - the border between Israel and Jordan between 1948-1967 which was located in the middle of the city

1) Ramat Rachel - This Biblical site was captured by the Egyptians three times only to be recaptured by Israel three times. We will see the old trenches and view where the Jordanian soldiers used to shoot from. For more on this site, check out this article I wrote: Ramat Rachel

2) Mandelbaum Gate - The only border crossing between Israel and Jordan until 1967.

3) Buildings on the 1948-1967 border road- We will see how the architecture was built taking into account that the enemy troops were only across the Street

4) View of the Security Barrier

Zion Hotel Rope

  • Rope used by the newly formed IDF to smuggle wounded Israeli soldiers (who were trapped on Mount Zion) in baskets under the noises of Jordanian snipers
  • During the day, the rope was kept limp on the ground so as not to be visible and arouse suspicion. At night it was cranked up and acted like a zipline.
  • The Jordanians never discovered it. The existence of this rope only became public knowledge in the 1970s when it was declassified

Option to add the brand new Biblical Gei Ben Hinnom Valley Bridge

  • Longest suspension bridge in Israel.
  • For more on this incredible attraction, check out this article I wrote: New Suspension Bridge

Har Adar

  •  You will visit a beautiful Jewish Settlement
  • Jordan had an important army base here until the 1967 Six Day War
  • The town helped control the famous "Jerusalem Cooridor"

The Castel

  • Pre-1948 (hostile Arab village)
  • We will hike to the top of the well preserved remains of the Mukhtar (Arab town leader)'s house where we will see some of the countries best views
  • Capturing this hill was crucial to Israel being able to lift the siege the of Jerusalem and take possession of West Jerusalem

Burma Road

  • In 1948, the Road to Jerusalem was dangerous due to the hostile Arab villages dotting Highway One. Jewish civilians in Jerusalem we cut off and at risk of starvation. As a result, this make shift road was created until a new one could be build
  • The potential for this road was discovered by soldiers who were hiking
  • The terrain was so difficult that for 1.5 km's of it, goods and equipment needed to be carried on foot.

Option to Jeep the Burma Road

Khan Shaar Hagai

"We were a group of almost 50 people, led by a wonderful guide Nosson Shulman. Nosson built us an incredible itinerary called "The Battle for Jerusalem through the ages" and that's exactly what we got.  I learned so much history today and deeply connected to the places we visited. How lucky we are to live here and get to experience this".
